If you own a property and want to carry out work to a party structure (such as a shared wall, intermediate floors or other boundaries between your property) then you will often need the services of a party wall surveyor. Similarly if you are notified that your neighbour wants to carry out such works then you will need to engage the services of a party wall surveyor.
The party wall act protects the rights of both the building owner and the adjoining property. It specifies timescales and and a code of practice. Often a joint party wall surveyor is appointed.
The party wall surveyors responsibility is to ensure that the rights of their client(s) are upheld in the works carried out as dictated by the law.

issue and help respond to statutory notices that form part of the act
ensure parties keep within the required timescales of the Party Wall Act
work with the other party wall surveyor acting for the adjoining boundary owner (if there is one)
produce the required Party Wall Award and serve, contribute and respond to all relevant requests that form part of the award
